Stamp out intolerance in football … but free speech?

August 28, 2012

There is an interesting line in today’s Herald Sun editorial:
Stamp out intolerance in football.

“There are laws to protect people from homophobic and racist remarks and police should have no hesitation in using them.”

It is interesting in that Andrew “most-read political blog in Australia” Bolt, who is published by the Herald Sun, had such laws applied to him and it triggered an endless stream of indignation from Bolt and (dare I say it) racism from his supporters.

The Herald Sun is a populist publication I expect to jump on bandwagons more often than not.  It will be interesting to see if they stand by these words when it doesn’t suit them.

It will be interesting to see if Andrew Bolt comments on this editorial given his push to protect free speech, but most likely he will offer his indignant “no comment”.
